Tips on befriending an international student

Befriending aninternational student is an educational experience for everyone involved. As a friend, you can become an ambassador of goodwill. Many Americans who have participated in the program share that the benefits for your family are enormous. Here are a few tips: be a learner versus having all the answers, communicate the length of your social outing, plan activities in advance, be a listener, and most importantly be a true friend!

Friendship Partner

We can partner you with an international student who desires to know more about American culture and language. This program gives the student an opportunity to see how a Seattle family lives. They are especially encouraged by invitations during holidays and other special events.

Language Partner

Many international students need help with conversational English. As a language partner, you can help them become more comfortable and fluent with the English language.

Activity Planner

Bridges International aims to host regular parties for international students. You can help plan these events with us and play a major role, e.g.,event coordinator, lead games during the party, help serve food, or just befriend an international student.
